Deep in the Heart
Directed by award winning filmmaker Ben Masters, Deep in the Heart is a visually stunning celebration of Texas’ diverse landscapes and remarkable wildlife found nowhere else. Told through the eyes of wildlife species ranging from the mysterious blind catfish to the elusive mountain lion, the film follows our ever-changing relationship with the natural world and how we affect it. Narrated by beloved Texan, Matthew McConaughey, the film aims to safeguard our remaining wild places and to recognize the importance of Texas’ conservation on a continental scale.
Opening Night Short Film + Festival Featured Artist:
Like a River
Artist and climber Jeremy Collins has had a long and loving relationship with the desert canyons of the American southwest. He describes his passion for three canyons, and creates a new mural that combines them on paper in the short film Like a River.
Jeremy is our featured artist at the 2022 EarthX Film Festival. He will be doing a live installation at Hall Arts during the length of the festival.
Opening Night Featured Musician
For two decades, Will Hoge has carried the torch for American Rock & Roll, carving out his own blue-collar sound rooted in amplified guitars, melodic hooks, southern soul and rootsy stomp. It’s a sound that nods to the best moments of the past — the punch of Tom Petty’s anthems; the countrified twang of Buck Owens’ singing; the raw, greasy cool of the Rolling Stones — while still pushing forward into new territory, with Hoge’s storytelling and larger-than-life voice leading the charge.
