EarthX Film and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra are excited to present the U.S. Premiere of The Way of the Rain – Hope for Earth, a multidisciplinary performance created for orchestra, chorus, film, art, and spoken word.
Conceived by the environmental artist Sibylle Szaggars Redford, the performance is inspired by the annual monsoon rains that sustain life on the fragile landscape of the high-desert plateaus of the Southwest, where she lives. The piece melds music, art, film, and poetry to take audiences through the story of our beautiful Planet Earth, beginning with the origin of the Universe, the formation of the galaxies, and the astonishing birth of our unique home. The performance interprets nature’s powerful beauty while calling attention to the Earth’s vulnerability and the threats posed to its fragile ecosystem by climate change.
Performed in the Meyerson Symphony Center by DSO musicians and accompanied with live spoken word by actor and filmmaker Robert Redford, The Way of the Rain invites audiences to remember their physical and spiritual connection to our planet’s beauty while being mindful of the many challenges that face the future sustainability of its precious ecosystems.
Sibylle Szaggars Redford is an internationally renowned multimedia artist whose work strives to draw viewers into a deeper awareness of our connection and dependence on the earth and its environment. For The Way of the Rain, which had its world premiere at Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation annual awards ceremony in 2021, she has collaborated with prolific chart-topping American composer Tim Janis, whose previous collaborations include work with Sr. Paul McCartney, Ray Charles, Maya Angelou, and Emanuel Ax.
EarthX and the DSO are proud to be able to bring this one-of-a-kind artistic experience to U.S. audiences for the first time. We hope you will join us for this profoundly moving and inspiring concert celebrating our Mother Earth.
